In the labyrinth again?
I’ve just ordered from Eastgate, an American publisher, a third hypertext. The first was a collection of philosophical texts written by David Kolb, Socrates in the Labyrinth; the second, a novel by Mark Bernstein, Those Trojan Girls.
The third one is a text whose title fascinates me since I discovered it on the Easgate website. This is Bill Bly's novel, We Descend. I do not understand why I hesitated so long before I bought it. Perhaps precisely because it burns me to read it — desire and its paradoxes —, perhaps also because it is a hypertext and that I can only read it on my computer, perhaps — lastly —, because I feel that my interest in this question which has been agitating me for several years since the day I discovered Tinderbox, this digital note-taking tool, is crystallized in it: how to write a hypertext? And, beyond this question, how to write a fiction with a tool such as Tinderbox or Storyspace? Hence the interest of this video in which Bill Bly exposes a part of his digital work.

Je viens de commander chez Eastgate, un éditeur américain, un troisième hypertexte. Le premier était un recueil de textes philosophiques écrits par David Kolb, Socrates in the Labyrinth; le second, un roman de Mark Bernstein, Those Trojan Girls. Le troisième est un texte dont le titre me fascine depuis que je l’ai découvert sur le site d’Easgate. Il s’agit du roman de Bill Bly, We Descend. Je ne comprends pas pourquoi j’ai hésité aussi longtemps avant d’en faire l’acquisition. Peut-être, précisément, parce qu’il me brûle de le lire — le désir et ses paradoxes —, peut-être aussi parce qu’il s’agit d’un hypertexte et que je ne peux le lire que sur mon ordinateur, peut-être — enfin — parce que je sens que se cristallise en lui mon intérêt pour cette question qui m’agite depuis plusieurs années, depuis le jour où j’ai découvert Tinderbox, cet outil numérique de prise de notes : comment écrit-on un hypertexte ? Et, par delà cette question, comment écrire un texte de fiction à partir d'un outil tel que Tinderbox ou Storyspace ? De là, l’intérêt de cette vidéo dans laquelle Bill Bly expose une partie de son travail numérique.
